This image illustrates the Royal Crescent in Bath, Great Britain, poking fun at the “ha-ha” – also known as a sunk fence, blind fence, ditch and fence, deer wall, or foss: a recessed landscape design element that creates a vertical barrier (particularly on one side) while preserving an uninterrupted view of the landscape beyond from the other side. (Wikipedia entry)
This print received a “Print with a Point” award from the Society of Wood Engravers 86th Annual Exhibition for illuminating the social separations built right into the landscape in Bath.
