Operating the press only with my hands and arms is not practical or efficient. My options were to buy a foot driven treadle (like old sewing machines had) or a belt driven motor. I decided to go for the motor.</p></div>
<div id="attachment_1375" style="width: 610px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img data-recalc-dims="1" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-1375" data-attachment-id="1375" data-permalink="https://www.starpointestudio.com/press-restoration-success/img_8248/" data-orig-file="https://www.starpointestudio.com/wp/wp-content/uploads//2017/10/IMG_8248.jpg" data-orig-size="600,800" data-comments-opened="0" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;2.4&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;iPhone 5c&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;1499511593&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;4.12&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;250&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0.05&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;1&quot;}" data-image-title="IMG_8248" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-large-file="https://www.starpointestudio.com/wp/wp-content/uploads//2017/10/IMG_8248.jpg" class="wp-image-1375 size-full" src="https://i0.wp.com/www.starpointestudio.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/IMG_8248.jpg?resize=600%2C800&#038;ssl=1" alt="" width="600" height="800" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/www.starpointestudio.com/wp/wp-content/uploads//2017/10/IMG_8248.jpg?w=600&amp;ssl=1 600w, https://i0.wp.com/www.starpointestudio.com/wp/wp-content/uploads//2017/10/IMG_8248.jpg?resize=338%2C450&amp;ssl=1 338w, https://i0.wp.com/www.starpointestudio.com/wp/wp-content/uploads//2017/10/IMG_8248.jpg?resize=150%2C200&amp;ssl=1 150w, https://i0.wp.com/www.starpointestudio.com/wp/wp-content/uploads//2017/10/IMG_8248.jpg?resize=225%2C300&amp;ssl=1 225w, https://i0.wp.com/www.starpointestudio.com/wp/wp-content/uploads//2017/10/IMG_8248.jpg?resize=450%2C600&amp;ssl=1 450w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /><p id="caption-attachment-1375" class="wp-caption-text">So, I acquired a motor, which happened to be sitting around Hound Dog Press (lucky me &#8211; they are very generous). The next step was to find a pulley for the press so I didn&#8217;t have to use the fly wheel (the big wheel on the left side) as the belt driven pulley. I found an 11.5 inch pulley on Etsy &#8211; it was being sold as a &#8220;Steam Punk&#8221; accessory for crafts! The bore hole was too small, so I had to bring it to a machinist to make it bigger.</p></div>
<div id="attachment_1376" style="width: 612px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img data-recalc-dims="1" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-1376" data-attachment-id="1376" data-permalink="https://www.starpointestudio.com/press-restoration-success/img_8702/" data-orig-file="https://www.starpointestudio.com/wp/wp-content/uploads//2017/10/IMG_8702.jpg" data-orig-size="602,800" data-comments-opened="0" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;2.4&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;iPhone 5c&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;1507309478&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;4.12&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;50&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0.041666666666667&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;1&quot;}" data-image-title="IMG_8702" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-large-file="https://www.starpointestudio.com/wp/wp-content/uploads//2017/10/IMG_8702.jpg" class="wp-image-1376 size-full" src="https://i0.wp.com/www.starpointestudio.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/IMG_8702.jpg?resize=602%2C800&#038;ssl=1" alt="" width="602" height="800" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/www.starpointestudio.com/wp/wp-content/uploads//2017/10/IMG_8702.jpg?w=602&amp;ssl=1 602w, https://i0.wp.com/www.starpointestudio.com/wp/wp-content/uploads//2017/10/IMG_8702.jpg?resize=339%2C450&amp;ssl=1 339w, https://i0.wp.com/www.starpointestudio.com/wp/wp-content/uploads//2017/10/IMG_8702.jpg?resize=151%2C200&amp;ssl=1 151w, https://i0.wp.com/www.starpointestudio.com/wp/wp-content/uploads//2017/10/IMG_8702.jpg?resize=226%2C300&amp;ssl=1 226w, https://i0.wp.com/www.starpointestudio.com/wp/wp-content/uploads//2017/10/IMG_8702.jpg?resize=452%2C600&amp;ssl=1 452w" sizes="(max-width: 602px) 100vw, 602px" /><p id="caption-attachment-1376" class="wp-caption-text">We now have the motor, pulley and belt &#8211; now I had to secure the press and motor in place. I opted to build a platform that could act as a pallet if I ever needed to move all 1200 pounds of press again &#8211; this would make our lives much easier.</p></div>
<div id="attachment_1377" style="width: 610px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://youtu.be/ju-o6BOWl5Y" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-1377" data-attachment-id="1377" data-permalink="https://www.starpointestudio.com/press-restoration-success/img_8949-2/" data-orig-file="https://www.starpointestudio.com/wp/wp-content/uploads//2017/10/IMG_8949-1.jpg" data-orig-size="600,800" data-comments-opened="0" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;2.4&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;iPhone 5c&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;1509297159&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;4.12&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;80&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0.05&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;1&quot;}" data-image-title="IMG_8949" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-large-file="https://www.starpointestudio.com/wp/wp-content/uploads//2017/10/IMG_8949-1.jpg" class="wp-image-1377 size-full" src="https://i0.wp.com/www.starpointestudio.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/IMG_8949-1.jpg?resize=600%2C800&#038;ssl=1" alt="" width="600" height="800" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/www.starpointestudio.com/wp/wp-content/uploads//2017/10/IMG_8949-1.jpg?w=600&amp;ssl=1 600w, https://i0.wp.com/www.starpointestudio.com/wp/wp-content/uploads//2017/10/IMG_8949-1.jpg?resize=338%2C450&amp;ssl=1 338w, https://i0.wp.com/www.starpointestudio.com/wp/wp-content/uploads//2017/10/IMG_8949-1.jpg?resize=150%2C200&amp;ssl=1 150w, https://i0.wp.com/www.starpointestudio.com/wp/wp-content/uploads//2017/10/IMG_8949-1.jpg?resize=225%2C300&amp;ssl=1 225w, https://i0.wp.com/www.starpointestudio.com/wp/wp-content/uploads//2017/10/IMG_8949-1.jpg?resize=450%2C600&amp;ssl=1 450w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a><p id="caption-attachment-1377" class="wp-caption-text">So after a couple very helpful, strong men assisted us in moving the press onto the platform, I could place the motor in the correct spot, mount it to the platform and install the belt. I also refinished the feed boards. Click on the image above to see the press in action!</p></div>

I printed four separate &#8220;jobs&#8221; in two days &#8211; here are a few! It was pretty easy to print a polymer plate, handset type and a wood engraving block &#8211; I&#8217;m very pleased!</p></div>
