In this self-portrait I am referencing the Egyptian goddess Nuit, goddess of the stars, sky, mothers, and astronomy. I moved away from dark skies, away from my solar powered studio. Away from my farm. Who am I now? I have a fiery dragon at my core. An oroboros – a dragon eating its tail is a symbol of eternal renewal, life, death and rebirth. I have my trusty engraving tools at the ready, like holstered tools ready to draw. Nuit eats the sun to give birth to the sunrise – I just like the connection to the cycles of life.

Life has been raw. Poison ivy creeps towards me from both places. References to a full rural life…Place has always been a strong influence on my sense of self and my art.
And the beginning of a new urban life, bringing all the life experience and Earth care I have gathered. A woodchuck family frequents my backyard. I have fireflies, robberflies, moths and many robins, bluejays, Carolina wrens, and mourning doves. I have planted asparagus, bleeding hearts, zinnias and many other familiar plants to ease my transition. It is hopeful and engaging.

“There are dragons in our center. Trust what you feel, know and dare to imagine” Glennon Doyle, Untamed
